President William Ruto has commissioned the 132kV Lessos–Kabarnet Transmission Line Project in Baringo County, a Sh1.5 billion power infrastructure investment expected to significantly improve electricity supply in the North Rift region.

The project, now integrated into the national grid, will deliver stable, reliable and affordable electricity to thousands of households and businesses across Baringo and neighbouring Elgeyo-Marakwet counties. Government officials say the transmission line will address long-standing power challenges that have hindered service delivery, business growth and industrial activity in the area.

Beyond lighting homes, the project is expected to spur economic growth by supporting critical services, attracting investment and creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people. The power line forms part of the government’s broader push to expand energy access and strengthen infrastructure as a foundation for regional development and economic transformation.
